Sustainability and environment

At Springhill, we want to create the most sustainable business possible, respecting people and the environment. We also support our suppliers in their efforts to promote sustainable development.

We continuously develop our customer offering from a sustainability perspective, which takes place at various levels. For example, we offer environmentally certified products such as GOTS and Oeko-Tex, we choose more sustainable production techniques, and we monitor suppliers’ performance against several sustainability parameters.

To reduce our environmental impact, we use transport with a limited CO2 emissions and avoid air transport. All carriers used by Springhill have an ISO 14001 certified environmental management system. We try to reduce the amount of packaging materials and choose recyclable and less environmentally damaging materials.

Product quality and chemical content are important to us and our customers. Of course, we comply with all the laws and regulations set by the EU and national regulators in the markets where our products are sold, such as REACh. We use the Textile Importers’ Chemical Guide and other guidance documents.

Social Responsibility

Springhill is a member of the amfori BSCI since 2007. It is a European initiative that helps retailers, importers and brands to improve workers’ conditions in production. Membership in amfori BSCI is a step in the long-term ambition to become an even better and more responsible company. Springhill works consciously to develop and train our suppliers for better working conditions, both by engaging local trainers/auditors and through our own monitoring. The watchword is to communicate and coordinate, and to set the right requirements for our suppliers. It is a continuous process with respect for the product, the environment and for all involved in the manufacturing process.

The Oeko-Tex standard 100 is one of the best known and most widespread labels in the world for textile sustainability and is therefore also the world’s leading label for textiles and leather. With this label we at Springhill Textile AB, in cooperation with our suppliers, show that the product is safe to use with regard to health hazardous substances! A certification means that the product meets high human ecological requirements, i.e. does not contain chemicals in levels that are harmful to health.

Springhill Textile has been a member of the BSCI since 2007. We aim to gradually have all our suppliers approved under the BSCI Code of Conduct. BSCI, or “Amfori”, as it is renamed from 2018, is a large European network, whose aim is to improve conditions and working environment for workers worldwide.

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is an international label for clothing and textiles that covers both social and environmental requirements. GOTS aims to make it easier for consumers to choose textile products that take a holistic approach to both environmental and social responsibility throughout the chain. The chain includes several steps: cultivation, picking, processing and manufacturing of the garment itself.

Springhill Textile requires its suppliers to comply with the chemicals legislation under the European Parliament and Council Regulation. REACH prohibits or restricts the use and import of certain types of substances. The aim is to reduce the use of chemicals that are hazardous to the environment and human health.

Springhill Textile is a member of Textile Importers. Membership gives us access to important information related to imports, trade and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) issues. Through Textile Importers, we also have access to the Chemicals Guide, specially developed by SWEREA for textile products and based on the EU chemicals legislation – REACH.

Our aim is to increase the proportion of products in our range that contain organic cotton. There are different labels for organic cotton. Initially, these products are certified by the Organic Cotton Content Standard.

Our labels are mostly made from FSC-certified paper. FSC stands for “Forest Stewardship Council”. The FCS label on a product means that the label contains wood from responsible sources. Forestry that is environmentally sound, socially responsible and economically viable.

Springhill Textile takes responsibility for packaging that occurs in the business and our products are labelled with the Green Dot. The Green Dot is a trademark that indicates that the packaging fee has been paid in the country where the packaged product is marketed. In Sweden, the trademark is owned by FTI.
